We’ve Got the Bleaus: Fontainebleau’s Arkadia

July 14, 2011

Whether it’s Bleau Bar, LIV or Arkadia, the Fountainebleau is the place to be. We can’t get enough of the energy pouring out of this iconic South Beach hotel.

Once you cross the threshold, you can choose to pre-socialize at Bleau Bar. You can’t miss the elegant, blue floor luring you into one of the chicest lobby bars on Miami Beach. If you want to get right down to business, follow the crowd and excitement into a line for Arkadia or LIV. Also see “moshpit” and “smirking bouncer”. We chose the Arkadia line with women whose dresses are shorter than Brittany Spears’ marriages (combined) and men that look like they are going to take you out on a yacht…except, we don’t wait in lines and the men probably don’t have yachts. Like any good South Beach club, there is a velvet rope, and, if you’re a lady and show it, you’ll be sauntering past it into Arkadia in no time. Down the stairs, into the rabbit hole you go until you reach a set of heavy, black doors. Just on the other side is your Saturday night. Doors open, cue lights, DJ-pumping music and wind in your hair. Ok, maybe no wind. But don’t blink or you’ll think you fell asleep and woke up in a Manhattan club previously shown on Gossip Girl. Think more Jenny Humphrey than Blair Waldorf.

Different colored lights flashing around Arkadia bounce off the silver poles enveloping this intimate nightclub. No, the poles are not stripper poles. I said this was a Gossip Girl-like club (not the episode where Blair strip-seduces Chuck, though). The VIP couches everywhere you look serve two purposes: 1. Make the elite feel elitier (yes, I said “elitier”) and 2. Make it easy for the ladies to relieve pressure on their already numb feet…TMI?

Lines? Check. Velvet rope? Check. Pool table? Check. Huh? How did that get in there? It got in through the front door like the rest of us. Hey oh! Arkadia has a pool table tucked away in the back of the club for those who need something to play with other than their empty glass. Speaking of…ridiculously over-priced drinks served in miniscule, plastic cups? Check. Arkadia’s drink prices remind us why frat boys invented the pre-party and why sorority girls invented binge drinking. But always expect $20.00 wells at any quality club in South Beach. If you’re not shy at the bar, invest in bottle service like everyone else in the club – what recession?

Now that you’re liquored up (and broke), you can enjoy the hip-hop pounding through the club’s sound system made famous by Arkadia’s resident DJ who is often joined by special guest DJ’s. From the body-moving music to the beautiful people, Arkadia is the place to be.

Live the HOT life. Leave work early on Friday, check into the Fontainebleau, eat dinner at Hakkasan, party at LIV, spend Saturday sipping on mojitos at the Arkadia pool lounge and round out your Arkadia day at with an Arkadia night. Sunday Advil not included.
